Garmin Edge 500 Chest Strap Battery Life

Garmin Edge 500 Chest Strap battery life, 6 months?
I bought the Garmin Edge 500 in December 2011. The display screen froze I few days after testing it. So I sent it to the Taiwan factory for repair and take 1 month to get it back.
Yesterday the Heart Rate sensor was non-detected. I change the battery and viola it works.
I know that the claimed battery life for the main unit is 18 hours, but nobody says anything about the chest strap battery life. The Garmin was used very moderately, about 30 minutes daily. The longest ride was about 3 hours.
Use a 50cent coin to open the battery compartment
CR2032 cost RM9.00
now the main unit can detect the chest strap sensor
RESET
change the old Battery with a new CR2032, and close the cover back. After that, the Heart rate was not shown in my Edge… To fix the problem, short-circuit the monitor for a few minutes. Bypassing the battery contacts should cause a reset of the device. This could easily done with a paper clip or by inserting the battery in the wrong direction. The contacts of the monitor are installed in a way that the misplaced battery will only cause a bypass between the two contacts. Be careful: don’t give reverse polarity to the device – only bypass the connectors! After this procedure, the heart rate monitor builds up a proper connection.
UPDATE Firmware:
 latest version 3.30
